Oh. My. God.

YouTube Video

He gets crated when we leave the house from now on. Because OH MY GOD.

  1. Oh my God, Torg! How did he even accomplish this much? If it weren't so enraging, I'd be impressed.

  2. WOW. I will not feel bad from now on when we have to go somewhere and I crate my puppy and he gets so upset. Isn't T. like 2 years old? Is there a certain age at which they become more trustworthy?

  3. Yep, he's 2. This is separation spite that's happening here. He's mad that we left him alone, so he's acting out. He's like a toddler throwing a tantrum. With rice.

  4. Wow. That's all I've got. I still think he's bored. You definitely have your hands full considering he has a great vertical and can surf the counters.

    1. See, I really don't think it's boredom. This dog has every toy under the sun AND I leave the TV on for him. I think it's separation anxiety more than boredom.

The scissors and the Clorox tabs are what really had me concerned (for him...the rest of it had me concerned for my sanity), and I swear to you all I thought those were out of his reach. I actually thought the scissors were in the knife block but I really don't think he could have gotten them out without knocking it over, so I must not have put them away.

  5. You HAVE to crate him so he learns his boundaries. How far/long do you walk him and how often?

  6. He gets a 2.5-3.75 mile walk every morning (length depends on weather, what all else we have going on that morning, and the baby's tolerance for being in the stroller), multiple smaller walks during the day (around the block), a 15-ish minute walk when Kevin gets home, then another around-the-block or two before bed. And we go to the dog park in the evenings/on the weekends whenever we can swing it. (I'd go during the day but I can't bring the baby in with me so it's not feasible unless I can find someone else to come along.)

This is really an issue of separation anxiety. He's only been with us for 3 weeks, so he's still settling in. We didn't want to have to crate him when we leave if we could help it, but obviously we can't leave him out until he's been with us long enough to know that we're always coming back.

  8. A little late to the party, but I just have to say, my dog has separation anxiety. It's a recent development, but it's infuriating just the same. I never know what I'll find when I come home. We tried crating him. We tried two different crates. A metal, cage-like one that he bent the bars of so that he could slip out. (Note: my dog is a 60+ lb pit bull/lab mix, so it's ridiculous he could fit through the bars). The second crate was a big plastic thing. We figured he wouldn't be able to get a grip on the slippery plastic inside to do any real damage. Wrong. He ate a hole through the back of it and was out by the time we got home. This dog is Houdini reincarnated.

Anyway, his newest thing is peeing in the house. I'd rather clean up a thousand messes than deal with this new thing. So, I'd say, as long as Torg isn't peeing everywhere, you're in good shape!
